2005 SAUVIGNON BLANC, CEDAR LANE VINEYARD |
|
 |

Wine Review Online, Robert Whitley
September 2006

This is veteran winemaker Dan Kleck's personal venture. He makes the wines at a facility in Paso Robles and his
production is small, so the best way to find his promising hand-crafted wines is through the website at www.silverstonewinery.com.
The '05 Sauvignon Blanc is from a cool region in Monterey County and that shows itself in the fresh, lean, mineral
edge. Complexity and richness emerge on the back palate, giving this Sauvignon another dimension. |

In the 70's, Dan Kleck helped put Long Island on the winemaking map, today he makes this beauty (among others);
tangy grapefruit flavors and a fresh, nervy finish. |

In the refreshing category is the 2005 Silver Stone Sauvignon Blanc, produced by a Paso Robles winery from Arroyo
Seco grapes. It's crisp and aromatic, with honeydew melon and gooseberry flavors. |

If you're looking for a bigger, richer chardonnay, there's the 2004 Silver Stone Chardonnay from Bien Nacido Vineyard
in the Santa Maria Valley. It has plenty of juicy lemon and pineapple flavors, with a layer of toasty oak that
builds some toward the finish. |

The debut effort from Silver Stone, this promising 2002 Syrah was picked very ripe, aged in a combination of French
and American Oak, of which 60% was new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Dense and chewy, it offers up a heady
concoction of blackberries, licorice, new saddle leather, and pepper. Full-bodied, with a beautiful texture. |
